Say Yes to Life and No to Drugs!!
Drug abuse and addiction are significant concerns that can impact the health, safety, and academic performance of students in educational institutions. To address these challenges, RGASC established an Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC), a specialized unit dedicated to combating drug abuse and promoting a drug-free environment on campus. The ANC plays a vital role in both prevention and intervention, ensuring that the college community remains informed, supported, and protected from the dangers of narcotic use.
Nasha Mukta Bharat Abhiyan (Drug-Free India Campaign) is a national initiative launched by the Government of India aimed at combating drug abuse and addiction across the country. This campaign is part of a broader strategy to create a drug-free society and promote healthier lifestyles.
Our college has actively participated in the NMBA drives and more than 300 students of our college have taken Pledge against drug abuse and have taken certificates.
Purpose and Objectives
The Anti-Narcotic Cell is established with the following key objectives:
1. Promote a Drug-Free Campus: Create and maintain an environment where drug abuse is actively discouraged, and healthy, drug-free lifestyles are encouraged.
2. Provide Support and Resources: Offer comprehensive support and resources for individuals affected by drug abuse, including counselling, treatment referrals, and recovery assistance.
3. Educate and Raise Awareness: Increase awareness about the risks and consequences of drug abuse through educational programs, workshops, and information dissemination.
Operational Framework
1. Policy Development: The ANC formulates and enforces policies related to drug abuse. These policies define prohibited substances, outline disciplinary measures for violations, and establish procedures for reporting and addressing drug-related issues.
2. Awareness and Education Programs: The cell organizes workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns to educate the college community about the dangers of drug abuse, the signs of addiction, and the resources available for support and treatment. Four of our students participated in the training program organised by Puducherry state NSS cell.
3. Support Services: The ANC provides access to counselling services in the college for individuals struggling with drug abuse. This includes confidential counselling, support groups, and referrals to specialized treatment facilities if needed.
4. Monitoring and Reporting: The cell monitors drug abuse trends on campus, evaluates the effectiveness of its programs, and handles reports of drug-related incidents. It ensures that complaints and concerns are addressed in a confidential and timely manner.
5. Prevention and Intervention:< The ANC team supported by department heads conducts regular checks in toilets, playgrounds and wherever there is a student gathering. Implementation of these strategies reduce the likelihood of drug abuse and intervenes early when issues are identified, providing support and resources to address the problem before it escalates.
The Anti-Narcotic Cell is an essential component of a college’s commitment to providing a safe, supportive, and drug-free environment. By focusing on prevention, support, and education, the ANC helps safeguard the health and well-being of the campus community, enabling students and staff to thrive in a positive and productive setting.
