Support, Guidance, and Growth: Transforming Lives through Mentoring and Counselling.
The journey of students extends beyond academics; it encompasses personal development, emotional well-being, and career preparedness.
Two critical components that support students throughout this journey are mentoring and counselling. Both practices are designed to enhance
the educational experience, provide guidance, and address various challenges faced by students. Understanding their roles, benefits, and
implementation can offer valuable insights into how they contribute to a more supportive and successful academic environment.
MENTORING
Mentoring is a relationship-based approach where experienced professors, known as mentors, provide guidance, support, and advice to students,
known as mentees. This relationship is built on mutual respect and trust, and it aims to facilitate personal and professional development.
Roles and Benefits:
1. Guidance: Faculty member who act as mentors are allotted 15 students as mentees. Mentors offer valuable insights and advice on academic
and career-related matters, helping mentees navigate their paths effectively.
2. Skill Development: Through mentoring, students gain practical skills and knowledge that are essential for their personal and professional growth.
3. Career Exploration: Mentors assist mentees in exploring career options, setting goals, and planning for the future, enhancing career readiness.
4. Networking: Mentors often introduce mentees to professional networks, opening doors to opportunities that might otherwise be inaccessible.
5. Personalised guidance: Our college admits 75% of rural students. More than 90% students are first generation degree learners. Rural students and first-generation degree learners often face unique challenges. Mentors provide essential academic guidance, career counselling, and financial advice, helping bridge educational and resource gaps. Tailored and culturally sensitive mentoring fosters resilience and success, empowering these students to achieve their goals and overcome obstacles.
Impact on Students: Mentoring enhances students’ academic performance, boosts their confidence, and prepares them for their future careers. By providing a supportive and nurturing environment, mentoring helps students overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. Many rural students have completed their degree successfully and has become the first graduate in their family. Many women students have completed their course successfully and are pursuing higher education and few are placed in renowned companies.
